ARCIA Brisbane dinner notesPosted on: 3rd August, 2018
Thursday 26th July saw close to 100 industry personnel gather at the Rydges Hotel in South Brisbane for the annual networking event. After pre-dinner drinks on the Podium level we moved to the 12th floor function room with its magnificent view of the city lights across the Brisbane River, a great backdrop to the evening. As always the food and service were excellent and the camaraderie between attendees was a highlight of the evening.
Our guest speakers were from the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games organising committee and they gave an overview of the radio communications involved in the event. With around 6800 portable radios and over 11000 accessories it was a huge logistical exercise, and most of the accessories have been returned after the event, a miracle indeed. It was interesting to hear the degree of involvement and efforts to ensure the efficient running of the event, especially when it is considered that the event covered the Gold Coast area, Brisbane and Townsville locations. We thank Chris Phillips and Matthew Peterson for their presentation.
The night was also the occasion for the announcement of the Industry Professional of the Year for Queensland, Geoff Woods was the popular winner and he will now be the nominee for the national award in Melbourne in November. Geoff has worked on many radio systems over the years and as the technical director from GMG Solutions he has also been heavily involved in training others on the technology involved. Congratulations Geoff.
Our next event will be Adelaide so watch for details to be announced shortly.
